Audio Editing and File Conversion

This is what I want to see in an editing application for preparing audio files for the web:

[1] Import, convert and export all the common formats such as AIFF, AAC, MP3, and WAV.

[2] Fast intuitive editing with play from a clicked insertion point.

[3] Auto and adjustable Fade In/Out.

I also like:

[A] A visually attractive interface.

[B] A separate “floating” transport control box.

[C] A reasonable price - $20 to $40.

Amadeus Pro is a nicely executed application and being able to customize the interface colors is a nice touch. If you use the batch mode and/or the repair center, then the price is reasonable.

Audacity should be your #1 choice to begin with. With the addition of LAME it does everything you would wish. The interface is not too pretty but its free!

The latest Beta has introduced a basic color scheme. I’ll try it someday when I get time!

Fission is the editor I would choose if only it had file conversion ability.

Sound studio  would near the top of my list but, like most of these editors, you can’t have a floating transport control and the price is too high.

I particularly like the way you can create and save your own fade options.

Wavepad has all the attributes of a perfect editor except for the total lack of file conversion which is a deal breaker. The paid upgrade is a “rip off” one computer license and the Mac version is inferior to the PC one.

Load your edits into VOX and it will do the file conversion for you.

If you already have your files in MP3 format, this application may be all you need to edit them.

VOX

If you use it, please donate to this incredible application.

Twisted Wave needs a big price cut. I would, at least, want to see some fading options and less clunky editing.

Peak Express 6 is a light weight version of Bias Peak. It does everything I would want and knocks the sox off anything at twice the price.

This is my Audio Editor - go get your own!
