Using Audacity to create web clips with Fade In and/or Fade Out

Audio file loaded into Audacity

Launch Audacity, go to File/Open and browse to your “My Website Music” folder to select and open a file for editing.

Drag over the area to be cut and either click on the “Scissors” icon or do - Command X.

If you change your mind do a Command Z to undo and try again and again and again......

Drag over your Fade In area, go to Effect/Utility and click Fade In.

Fade Out is done just the same way.

You can also do Cross Fades in a compilation track by using Fade Out/Fade In at the appropriate point where one song ends and the other begins.

Here is my file with the Fade In. Note that I have also cut out the long tail at the end of the file.

Now we need to Export the File.....

HINT:

You can make a compilation track in Audacity by opening your first song file in one window and your next file in another.

Drag over your second file and copy - Command C.

Click on the end of your first track in the first window and paste - Command V.

Then open a third track in another window and repeat....

A compilation of clips from a few tracks can be useful for using in the Simple Flash Player described in the MP3 Music Players section of this site to keep things - umm - simple!
