The xspf Playlist Player

This really cunning MP3 player uses an xspf playlist file. You can have any amount of songs on it and display a different image with each if you want.  It can not only be set to autoplay, but can also be loaded onto each page of your site and set to autoresume so that you music plays, more or less, continually.

First you need to create a folder that will be uploaded to your main website folder on your server.

Inside the “FlashPlayer” folder you need to assemble:

xspf_player.swf

MP3 files

JPEG images at 130x130 pixels

playlist.xspf

Download the xspf_player.swf  HERE, unzip it and drag it into the FlashPlayer folder.

Drag you MP3 files into the folder.

Create your image(s), resize them to 130x130 px to fit the player window and drag them into the folder.

Now for the dreaded playlist.xspf. To make things go easy for you, open something like TextEdit.app and create a list of your Song Titles, the URLs of the MP3 files and the JPEG images.

It will look something like this.....

01 Song Title 1

     http://www.mywebsite.com/FlashPlayer/Song1.mp3

     http://www.mywebsite.com/FlashPlayer/Image1.jpg

02 Song Title 2

     http://www. mywebsite.com/FlashPlayer/Song2.mp3

     http://www. mywebsite.com/FlashPlayer/Image2.jpg

03 Song Title 3

     http://www. mywebsite.com/FlashPlayer/Song3.mp3

     http://www. mywebsite.com/FlashPlayer/Image3.jpg

Go HERE and download Xpiff.app.

The main window looks like this.....

Now stop the player so that you can concentrated!

Once you have completed your list, go to the File dropdown Menu

of Xpiff and click on “Export as xpsf”. Choose the destination as

your desktop and drag the playlist.xspf into your FlashPlayer folder.

Now upload the FlashPlayer folder to your main website folder using your favorite FTP application.

On the next page we are going to look at the code. Before you click the Next Page button, start the player so that you will get an idea how the auto resume function works.

Hit the RETURN key and fill in the details for song 2

Note that this does not appear to autoplay in IE V7 but does autoresume.

Unless you own the copyrights on a musical composition, you will have obtain and pay for two separate licenses to play it on your website.

These are explained here -  http://www.iwebformusicians.com/DistributeandPromote/CopyrightPublishing.html

The institutions who protect and manage these copyrights have big bucks to sue offenders.

You have been warned!
